Doug Ford's at it again. He plans to put a new, unnecessary highway through the protected Greenbelt. Now he's getting rid of another prime provincial parcel of land, right on Lake Ontario, land that should be enjoyed by the public.
When I saw this headline in today's Toronto Star:
"Ontario Place proposal sparks criticism:
New plans include five-level parking lot, removal of hundreds of trees to build spa"
(page 1, article by Ben Mussett and David Rider)

I couldn't help thinking of Joni Mitchell's song, Big Yellow Taxi.
"They paved paradise/
Put up a parking lot."
I spent a lot of weekends there -- as a kid and with my own. Nothing like taking a fantastic public area and making it inaccessible.
ReplyDeleteI went on some dates there, and remember enjoying a Peter, Paul and Mary concert.
DeleteMy favorite line from the very Joni Mitchell song you quote is "Don't it always seem show that you don't know what you've got till it's gone." Yup.
ReplyDeleteDougie just got re-elected for another four years of this kind of incompetence. :-(
DeleteUgh. I'm so sorry. But nature has an amazing capacity to put things back into balance.
