Signs of the Times, Part Two

 Remember the

clever billboards in front of a synagogue

that have been brightening up a nearby street?

The synagogue hasn't had any visitors since March,

but that writer has been busy making drivers smile.

Here are more examples of sparse writing

where every word counts.

Thou shalt not covid thy neighbour's wife.

2020 is hindsight.

In my copywriting days, the layout came first and I had to fit my copy into it.

I had to count words. Sometimes I had to count characters.

That was excellent training for other kinds of writing.

I appreciate this writer's economy of words and sense of humour.

  1. I wish not to *covid* anything... But what is this about synagogue billboards? {You didn't link it, so I will go a-googling}
Meanwhile, my respect and gratitude for all who have not lost their sense of humor.

  2. Haha! Love it. I remember a church sign debate about dogs going to heaven. It's pretty funny even if its just an internet thingie: http://www.thedogpress.com/Funny/All-Dogs-To-Heaven.asp

  3. Very good. That gave me a good giggle and an appreciation for a neat pun.

    1. Glad you liked it, Vallypee.

Today, driving by the same sign, we read, "Welcome back!" Ontario has just entered Phase One of reopening after a lockdown since November. It's a pleasure to see people enjoying restaurant patios and shopping at some stores again.

    2. Vallypee, you might enjoy two blog posts I wrote in 2013 about our vacation to Amsterdam and Scheveningen for our 20th wedding anniversary.

      Here's the first one:
